Movie Update

I watched three movies recently. Reviews for each are as follows –  Life of Pi  This one was suggested by many of my friends. And yes, it was worth it. Based on the Man Booker prize winning book of the same name, the movie is the tale of survival of “Pi” who was stranded in the Pacific Ocean for more than 100 days with a Royal Bengal Tiger. To be honest, the story isn’t as intriguing as the cinematography. The initial sequence of the animals in the Zoo is one of the high points of the movie. In fact, overall this is the best 3D movie I have ever seen. Previous ones like MIB III and The Amazing Spiderman had nothing to do with 3D effects. It seemed as if they were basically filmed in 2D and then converted to 3D just to make more money. This movie, however, was different. Despite the movie being slowly paced especially in the second half, some of shots are so nice that slowness in the story can be forgiven. Balak Palak (BP)   Well, this was one of the most an...

Movies

I saw 3 movies over the last 5 days. First I watched " Four Weddings and a Funeral " & " The Bucket List " over the weekend. Yesterday, I saw " My Best Friend's Wedding " which I had already seen in parts on TV many times. Any movie suggestions for the next weekend? I might watch Marathi remake of "No Entry".

Movies

Few movies I watched recently - Rowdy Rathore Gangs of Wasseypur I & II Ek Tha Tiger The Dark Knight Rises P. S. I love you Four Weddings & Funeral Next on the list - My Best Friend's Wedding The Bucket List

Alaipayuthey

I had not heard of this movie earlier. Sathiya had the same music track as Alaipayuthey . This is the "Chup Ke Se" equivalent of the original.

LOTR Magic

I still can not believe that I had not watched this great trilogy until last week. Well, yes, I had seen it  in bits in pieces but never in a way to make head or tail of what was happening. And you cannot if you don't watch the series from beginning. This is because there are many characters introduced in the movie in each parts of the movie. I never understood the story, the characters. So when I started watching the trilogy from Tuesday, I was really amazed. Of course, not having subtitles does create some problems, but that was nothing when I think of the way the whole plot was executed. The special effects were superb. I really couldn't think anything bad with any of the movie except that all were long and I couldn't watch them in one sitting. In case, you have also missed these great movies, get hold of a LOTR DVD or torrent, watch them. It's worth it!

Movies

When the second year started in NITIE, I had decided that I would watch enough good movies to make my last year of academic "count". I think I have been fairly successful in doing so since I have seen more than 50 movies on my laptop (Well, I have not seen more than 10 movies on my Desktop which is 6 years old now) Best of the movies are (and I would recommend that you should also watch them at least once in your life) - - My Sassy Girl (Korean Version) - The Man From Earth - Wall Street - Top Gun - Watchmen - American Beauty - Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind - A Beautiful Mind The above list contains only those movies which I saw in last 8 months.

Movies Seen in Past 2 months

True Grit - Decent Movie about a girl chasing her father's murderer along with a one-eyed US Marshall and a Texas Ranger. It has the typical West style accent which is actually difficult to understand. Acting was good. Worth a watch. The King's Speech - I watched this movie immediately after it got the Golden Globe. It is a very good movie and a must watch. Colin Firth is at his very best. Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji - Waste of money! I can't believe I saw this movie in theater that too in Balcony!! Whats worse Madhur is thinking of making a remake!!! No One Killed Jessica - Good Hindi movie after a long time. Both Rani and Vidya were amazing. The question with the option of One Crore or One bullet is an uncomfortable one. What would you do, really? The Man From Earth - The best of them all!!! Thank you Varun for suggesting this movie. I was stupid that I never saw this movie in College. हटके मूवी!!!

Harry Potter

Since the 3rd part of the series, I have not really liked any of the Potter movies. Even the latest installment of franchise was a disappointment. I guess reading the book beforehand raises your expectations to a level which can not be really achieved!

गुलदस्ता

Yesterday I saw the Marathi movie “ Guldasta ”. It is a decent movie made by Zee Talkies. Though the story, like most other Marathi Comedy movies, wasn’t that good, Makarand Anaspure’s performance was praiseworthy. His punch lines created the laughter for most part of the film. Others were average including Jitendra Joshi. In fact he was too laud and tried a little too much to emulate Nikhil Wagale. All in all, it is worth one time watch!

I Hate Luv Stories

Yesterday I watched the movie “I hate luv stories”. I didn’t like the movie much. My initial feeling was that it is kind of spoof of many typical love stories in Bollywood. But in fact, it was yet another boring love story of co-incidences and signs. As Viraj said just because people get in touch with each other for too long, because they get too much used to each other, doesn’t mean they are in love. There were few funny moments though, especially the one involving the fat guy from “sprite” ads (The “check list of love” was really good). The movie was watchable because of the comments made by Viraj every now and then :)

मराठी चित्रपट

Last week I saw 2 Marathi movies. And both were really good movies. Harishchandrachi Factory and Zenda. Let me first talk about “Harishchandrachi Factory”. A simple movie about Father of Indian film industry, Dadasaheb Phalke. Instead of trying to create “Hero” out of Phalke, the director simply wanted to show the way made his first film in a simple, humorous way. He has not tried to create emotional situations when an ordinary director could have added the usual “rona-dhona”. I remember on the scenes where Phalke is leaving for London, and he is walking down the stairs. He goes down few steps and then comes back to his wife and tells her in ears “हे सगळे तुझ्यामुळे घडतंय”(All this is happening because of you). Nice movie, watch it, and watch it in theater :)   Zenda!! What can I say? I have hardly seen any movie which resembles reality so much and I guess that is what I don’t like about it. Either you tell complete truth or don’t tell. Partial reality and produce bia...

Bommarillu

I just saw the Telugu movie “ Bommarillu ”. Ever since, Divin, Piu and Manoj posted on vjcomps group that  it is really good movie (that was long time ago). I must say, one of the best movies I have seen. Great performances by Siddharth and Genelia while portraying Siddhu and Hasini . Especially Genelia looks really cute. Do watch the movie if you can :)   One sad thing though is that the remake in Hindi will have Harman Baweja for Siddhu’s role. I thought it would have been great had Siddharth Narayan would have given the chance again. Lets hope that Harman makes the best of this chance!!!   Image Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bommarilluposter.jpg

Natrang

I seriously don’t remember the last time I watched a Marathi movie in a theater, so according to my memory this was the first time I saw a Marathi Movie in a theater. And where?? The center point of recent controversy, Bharatmata, whose owners have been asked by NTC to vacate the place. Well, I will discuss that point in another post. Now, let us talk about the movie. I must admit it was a pleasure to watch Natrang in Bharatmata. The theater is located in central Mumbai near Lalbaug, which was dominated by Marathi mill workers in the yesteryears. Viraj had gone to PVR Lower Parel to buy the tickets. But since it would have cost us Rs. 150 each, I felt that it was too costly and asked Viraj to watch the movie in some other theater or on some other day. Since, Bharatmata was the nearest theater he decided to go there. I also left from home to join him. When I went there, there was a huge line for ticket. I didn’t tell Viraj but I had just 30 bucks in my wallet at that time, but what y...

Movie Updates

Just now watched Grind House in fast forward mode. Horrible movie and waste of time!!! On the other hand, Telugu movie “Happy Days” which I saw in the afternoon was much more fun and even though I watched only half of it, I enjoyed it. Hard to believe that someone has actually made a movie on the 4 years of engineering. If you could fetch a subtitle version of the movie then do watch it. In fact, I would advice you to watch it with your friends ;)
