Its been long time since I wrote about NITIE. It is amazing how time passes by, I know it is a cliché, but you really can’t run away from it. It just seems yesterday that I went to NITIE on Susmit’s Bike to collect my offer letter. 3 modules have passed now and even my internship has just 2 weeks left. Lots of things happened in college and outside college. I witnessed some key moments which I never imagined in my life. Now, it seems like being the CR of the class was something which wasn’t just a coincidence. I needed that responsibility to keep me going, keep me working otherwise I would have been sitting idle in my room watching movies (which I eventually did in later half of Mod 3 but not as much as some of the others) I was able to interact with teachers, negotiate submission dates, arranging guest lectures (this was the toughest part).
Study, as in the past, was good. NITIE seems so much like VJTI in terms of functioning except that we have better teachers at NITIE. Some of NITIEians might disagree on this count but they haven’t seen the VJTI teachers. In fact, this is what makes NITIE different from IIMs or XLRIs. The teachers might be not as good as these elite institutes, but they do offer a lot of flexibility when it comes to submission, papers.
I was never good at any sports, but I did play a handful of them here in NITIE especially Box Cricket in Mod 3, thanks to the “Gupta”s. Played Carrom, TT some times.
To be fair, NITIE hostel 5 is really great place to live if you consider the kind of hostel you have in some other B-schools and most of the engineering institutes. Having a 36 inch TV on each floor itself is a luxury. Watching Cricket was real fun there. I still regret attending a seminar on GST while SRT was creating history to score 200*.
I did learn to watch American sitcoms at will as well as some great movies. I am sure I won’t get an opportunity to watch such stuff at home. Though FRIENDS is a great series, I somehow like HIMYM and “The Big Bang Theory” more.
I did make some friends, but to be honest I really wasn’t someone whose friendship was restricted to college. What I mean is that I hardly liked to go out of college when I was in college (Actually I never liked traveling and NITIE is really far from main city). At least I did enough to earn some respect among my peers and that is what makes me happy.
Last but not the least, I love my college and loved every bit of my first year. Looking forward to a wonderful second year!!!
