Convocation

For past 2 weeks on FB, I saw pics of my VJTI friends getting their MBA degrees. There was a sense of achievement on their faces after spending 2 years of their life in their respective colleges. Each one had a grand convocation. I was wondering when my convocation would be, will it be in June? or July? This is when I got the news that my seniors will be having convocation on 30th April :D

Placements - II

One thing I noticed during the placements which I had only heard from my seniors – that is desperation. I am no exception for this rule. Placements is a pretty rigorous process and after a day in the process if you don’t make it to the final list of any company, it feels like hell. What is worse is that you start to doubt yourself. And mind you it is not about people who have low CGPA. Whether you are 2nd or 3rd ranked in NITIE, whether you have done a summer internship at the biggest FMCGs in the world, you feel the “heat” nevertheless. No wonder, after you do get placed, in most of the cases, the emotions really don’t come out. You are running high on adrenaline, your heart is beating like the way Sehwag’s strike rate. Suddenly, when the results are out, once that feeling sinks in, you feel completely different. Yes you feel happy but there is more to it than just happiness.

Now and Then…

Education

In March during one of the DBMS lecture, Date Sir started talking about “locks” is DBMS. Then he went on to talk about deadlock, recovery. Suddenly realized something. For past 6 years when I was learning/doing engineering, nobody actually taught me all this. That was the first time someone was talking about locks, recovery, deadlock, etc. I had study all that stuff on my own. I had to read Korth for hours to understand functional dependencies, the algorithm to bring a set of FDs in to normal forms. I feel pity that we never had the opportunity to actually learn all this great stuff. During VJTI days it was fun not to have a lecturer for a subject or have a bad teacher. But this is not good at all. In fact, if this is happening at the most premier institute in Maharashtra, I wonder how pathetic is the situation at other colleges. No wonder no body wants to do a PG in technical field in India.

VJTI Memoirs

This is one of the posts which I should have written long time ago. Honestly, the time I spent in VJTI was awesome. Maybe I was too much studious at most of the times, but I did enjoy those birthday parties, lunch/dinner after every semester exam, Pratibimb, Technovanza, Nirmaan, time spent at hostel especially room no. D-104 (Pratik, am I right with the room no.?) I remember the first day I went to VJTI. I was searching for PRD 2 classroom, but there was no class like that. Actually, there was a PLR 2 where we had to go, but there was a mistake in the timetable. I guess that should have given us the kind of mismanagement we were going to see. I was pretty nervous on the first day. I was attending college after almost 6 months. I wrote my 12th exam in early March and VJTI started on 15th of September. I was afraid how I was going to spend 9-5pm lectures, won’t I get bored? How strict the teachers will be? I saw few familiar faces from Ruparel though I hardly had any interaction with ...

Slideshow

Hi, I always wanted to add the slide shows of various Picassa albums which I have. Cant believe that I never noticed the "embed slideshow" link in that. Anyways, here a look at my last day in college. I will add my school photos also, as Kiran has scanned all the photos.

Do you like TA?

Abhiram…. This guy from Nagpur is always full of energy, and is always ready to help others even if he himself is in a mess. During our final semester exam he was wrongly marked as absent, so he had to come all the way from Nagpur to Mumbai to get the result corrected. Fortunately, the matter was resolved and he got 70+ percentage. Anyways, I am not here to discuss his life here. I want to share one joke of his with my friends in vjcomps. It goes like this. .. In the final year of my BE, I used to work (???) for final year project with his room mate Pratik, Sankalp and Sidscope. Since Pratik stayed in hostel, we decided to do development in his room (D-108, if I am not mistaking). Now, Abhiram is all guns blazing when Kapil (another hostelite) is around. Kapil is a shy guy who rarely speaks about girls, forget about other stuff. So when Kapil started talking about some boring topic, Abhiram used to say, “Tell me the truth Kapil, tula ‘TA’ avadate ‘TA’……… ”. As you know we sometim...
