Sunday

These Sundays are becoming really emotional these days with farewells to friends and family members. First it was Hrushikesh, my younger brother who went to Ahmedabad for Tata Motors. My parents were actually against sending my bro “so far” from Mumbai, but my brother was firm on his decision to go there. I spent a day with my family on Saturday helping them to pack things up for him. The train was at 5.45AM next day. Once they got into the train and settled down, I asked my bro to come out of the train and had a small chat with him. I told him what I should have, being the elder brother. After, the last tight hug, I bid him a Good Bye and wished him all the best for his future journey at TM.

Last week we, school friends, gave Susmit a small farewell party at “5 Spice”, Fort. It was pretty emotional at the end while parting. I had prepared a speech which I wanted to say at the end. Unfortunately, we got the table really late which meant we came out of the hotel at 12 o’clock. It was pretty late for even me (as I got a call from my dad who was particularly unhappy about me staying out so late), so I just went to Susmit asked him that I have a speech to give. He said why not. With phones ringing continuously, and emotions running high I made my maiden speech among friends. I really can’t believe I did what I had actually planned almost a month before. After the second paragraph it was hard to read and I just spoke whatever I remembered. I almost skipped half of what I had written and even could not make the final request of asking Susmit to say the Poem which he told me (I guess it was his birthday on that day) – his own creation. I returned home at 12.30, but it must have been almost 2 when I actually slept.

I really can’t forget these people and these memories!

My Favorite Song

I always loved marathi songs. Be it the usual film songs, or the ever spiritual bhakitgeet. I am great fan of Vasant Bahar (the collection songs by Vasant Desai, Vasnt Prabhu and Vasant Deshpande). But all these songs were recorded in older times, before the 80s. In fact there were not many songs from the 90s which were really great. The emphasis was more on Comedy and the music paid for this. In fact there were songs which were "combo" songs containing the marathi versions of many popular hindi songs. Post Shwas era however has been much more encouraging. There were some amazing numbers like Radha hi Bawari, Man Udhan Varyache, Malhar vari and more. The song which I am going to mention here was an special addition  to the "Aga Bai Arechya.." audio CD. It was got the modern touch which I think is essential for Marathi songs if they really want to compete against the Hindi or Punjabi songs.  Sung by Swapnil Bandodkar, this one is at the top of my favorite songs list
