Memories - II

I just realized that because of office notes, I have got into a habit of using "justified" formatting even while blogging. Earlier, I never used those settings, in fact I never noticed that they exist.

Anyway, coming back to the last 6 months, we had multiple night outs, with one of them at my home for the first time ever. We, meaning my school friends and myself, went for 3 trips since the Lonavala trip in January. First, we went to Pune and stayed at Jeetu's house in the Camp area. It was nice to stroll around in the night in that area and discuss about various things with Jeetu.

In July, we planned a trip to Mahabaleshwar where we had earlier gone in 2009. There was an amazing weather with intermittent rains and a lot of fog. As we had seen most of the "Points" during our last visit, we decided to visit Pratapgad this time. As it was an off season period, the direct bus to Pratapgad was not available. We had to board another bus and get down at a place almost hour's walk from Pratapgad. By the time we reached Pratapgad, we were very hungry and we just attacked the Misal-Pav and Pithala-Bhakar available in the restaurant there. Most of pics taken were hazy due to the fog. But this picture was my favorite. We didn't have the usual late night discussions, instead we played cards - mainly "Badam Saat". Most of the games were won by Mantri, Viraj and Nik and they attributed it the "Old Monk" they were having. On next day, however, we had pretty competitive games, but we still trailed by 2-6 with 6 in favor of Viraj, Mantri and Nik. Somehow, the fortunes turned and we (the non drinkers i.e. Myself, Aditya, Nabar and Harshad) won 5 games on the trot. I guess the decisive game was the one where Nik messed up one card when he had every other card as "sure" winner. Of course, one might say that it was an unfair game as we had the "God" (read as Aditya) himself on our side. Once we returned back to Mumbai on Monday morning, I had rush to Airport where I had to catch a Bangalore flight. It was my first official visit outside Maharashtra since March this year.

Next post I will talk about the Matheran trip (Matheran always gives me some interesting Memory to talk about).

Marathi Manoos

I read the following article in Mint yesterday. http://www.livemint.com/Articles/2010/02/19213129/The-Thackerays8217-primitiv.html I was shocked by the bias shown by the author against the Marathis. I completely agreed with him when he talks about Sena. Both Shivsena and MNS have done more damage to Marathis than they have helped. Their methods have been of violence and oppression. May it be Shiv Sena’s reaction to racists attacks in Australia or the MNIK controversy, common man is the one who usually suffers. But the author then checks the list of 30 companies in BSE and 50 in NSE, to prove that there are no Marathi person “owning” a company and goes on to say - “ The Mumbai Marathi, better at renaming things than building something himself”. Then he says - If we observe Marathi society we notice the total absence of mercantile castes. Into this space the British imported the multi-religious trading community of Surat—Vohra, Khoja, Luhana, Memon, Jain, Parsi and Vaniya. The...
