Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech 2005

Steve Jobs at his Best It is a really nice speech from one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time. He talks of about 3 incidents in his life that he thinks made all the difference. Do watch it. I loved it!!!

Mozilla Home tab Challenge

Mozilla has launched “The Home Tab" challenge. It has entered into its 2nd round of voting. It basically tries to find the interesting uses of Home tab in Firefox. People have submitted really cool ideas here. You can check the mockups here - http://design-challenge.mozillalabs.com/winter09/top10.php I liked the designs by Alberto Moreno, Alecsandru Grigoriu and Yatrik Solanki. Do check out the videos.

Class Poll

Few years ago, I had conducted a class poll with my classmates from Chikitsak. It was inspired from a similar attempt by Shail in VJComps. I included almost the same fields with addition/removal of few categories. I could not tabularize the results till now. Yesterday, I consolidated the mails sent by my friends, and here are the results -   Kitaabi Keeda - Saraf Class Bakra - Jeetu Class Hunk - Susmit Class Babe - It was a tie – SJ, NP, PB Bhukkad - Viru Biggest Flirt - Nik Class Clown - Babu Biggest Bunker - Ketan Best Personality - Jeetu Late Latee...

Cricket @ Wilson Gymkhana

Ever since I started playing cricket again here in NITIE, I desperately get back to Wilson Gymkhana and play one last match there with my school friends. There are 3 reasons for this – I love cricket With 3 of my best friends leaving to US this year, there is little chance we would be able to play again. I have lost last 3 matches at Wilson Gymkhana and would like bid adieu to the ground in a respectable manner. Now, I would like to elaborate on the 3rd point. Worst of these 3 matches was – I was the captain in all 3 of them and we lost the matches more or less because of my goof-ups. In the 3rd last match, I dropped 2 catches on consecutive deliveries of the “hitter”(Umesh Vichare) in the opposite team who literally hit us of out of the match. The 2nd last match made me infamous “cheater” in cricket. We bowled well in this match and needed just 35 in 6 overs. I came down as an opener, Vikram and I played out most of the overs carefully with 7 to win in the last over. A...

Marathi Manoos

I read the following article in Mint yesterday. http://www.livemint.com/Articles/2010/02/19213129/The-Thackerays8217-primitiv.html I was shocked by the bias shown by the author against the Marathis. I completely agreed with him when he talks about Sena. Both Shivsena and MNS have done more damage to Marathis than they have helped. Their methods have been of violence and oppression. May it be Shiv Sena’s reaction to racists attacks in Australia or the MNIK controversy, common man is the one who usually suffers. But the author then checks the list of 30 companies in BSE and 50 in NSE, to prove that there are no Marathi person “owning” a company and goes on to say - “ The Mumbai Marathi, better at renaming things than building something himself”. Then he says - If we observe Marathi society we notice the total absence of mercantile castes. Into this space the British imported the multi-religious trading community of Surat—Vohra, Khoja, Luhana, Memon, Jain, Parsi and Vaniya. The...

Its Half time!!!

After 6 weeks into Module 3 this is our lecture count. I seem to be getting into hyper stats mode…

Module 1 Results

Today when Harsh told me that my section’s FM result was out, I rushed to the academics section with VP and Mishra. It was a decent performance by class with lots of Bs considering the fact that we had a tough paper and even tougher viva. Fortunately, VP and I got A, the highest in our class :) While noting the grades of FM, VP saw that even our Module 1- Business Economics results were (finally!) also displayed there. It was nice to get A- in the Eco, though I certainly would have liked more ;) So my first module CGPA stands at 9.133 . Good start to my second innings in academics, no?

मराठी चित्रपट

Last week I saw 2 Marathi movies. And both were really good movies. Harishchandrachi Factory and Zenda. Let me first talk about “Harishchandrachi Factory”. A simple movie about Father of Indian film industry, Dadasaheb Phalke. Instead of trying to create “Hero” out of Phalke, the director simply wanted to show the way made his first film in a simple, humorous way. He has not tried to create emotional situations when an ordinary director could have added the usual “rona-dhona”. I remember on the scenes where Phalke is leaving for London, and he is walking down the stairs. He goes down few steps and then comes back to his wife and tells her in ears “हे सगळे तुझ्यामुळे घडतंय”(All this is happening because of you). Nice movie, watch it, and watch it in theater :)   Zenda!! What can I say? I have hardly seen any movie which resembles reality so much and I guess that is what I don’t like about it. Either you tell complete truth or don’t tell. Partial reality and produce bia...

This song is dedicated to one of my best friends. I can already envisage few people ROTFL…

Tu Chand…

I was actually searching the song “Kaleja Khalas Zala”, which Sunil Barve had sung in “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa”. While searching I found this song. It is also written by Acharya Atre and is part of a play called “Brahmachari”. मस्त आहे :)

My Wish List

So what would I like to get as a Birthday gift. If you are going to give me a gift, let me make your job simpler ;) There are 2 things I liked the most in childhood but was only able to “enjoy” both at the end of last year. I am talking about Goggles and Jackets. In most of childhood pics, you would find me with Goggles or Jacket. I really didn’t get too many chances of wearing them in school/college life. I broke my maiden Goggles during my first Pratibimb. After that it was only in 2008 that my dad asked me to buy another one. Now, I have 2 if you include my brother’s Goggles, but I still have space for another colorful one, especially the one in " The Hangover ” ;) Books. Well, I would not call myself a good reader. But I always felt the need to read good books either for pure entertainment or to improve my intellectual prowess. This is an area where I feel that I lag behind everyone. I know there are thousands of books out there which I should read, but I have very ba...

Music

Music is one of those things that I started liking because of my parents. My mother used to listen to “विविध भारती" on Radio AM signal between 11-12.30pm. Though I did not enjoy the songs that much when I was young, I guess it was during my ninth of tenth grade when I really got serious about listening to music. As I remember 11-12 slot was given to the Hindi film songs. They had a limited collection of songs, so shows would repeat after every 1 month or so. Some songs which I first heard on Radio but hardly saw on TV were - “जाने दो ना” from सागर, “और इस दिल में क्या राखा है" from इमानदार, “मुझे ऐसा लागता है” from त्रिदेव. Then at 12 they would broadcast Marathi songs. It had different programs though one of the oldest was celebrity interview plus their favorite songs. The interviews used to be so old that one day I heard them introducing Nivedita Joshi as a “नवतारका”!    The real change came when we threw our old Radio and bought a small Philips Radi...

A Year Back

Last year I gave GATE on this very day. Started studying a week before the exam and produced a Rank – 378 with Percentile of 99.09 :) (It took me 3 years to push my Percentile beyond 99 in CAT) P. S. – I would have liked to emulate the way Naruto masters Rasengan in a week ;)

Source: http://www.aathavanitli-gani.com/Song Html/251.htm

Mystery

Why is Vridhaman Saha is in Indian test team when Parthiv Patel scored highest runs among the Wicketkeepers, in fact he was among top 10 run getters this season!!!

National Data Bank

I am working on a project and wanted some data on India’s National Income. I went to website of Central Statistical Organization of India (Basically Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation). None of the links on the National Data Bank are working. What is the purpose of having such data online when it cannot be accessed? Here is the link .

Fair @ NITIE

Today I went to see the fair opened near NITIE campus. It has been a while since I went to any fair. The fair had started around 10 days ago, but I wasn’t finding anyone to go along with. Finally, I went Sharmistha, Tejas, Snehal, and 6 more from my college. Since childhood I have been really scared of heights and speed. I remember once I sat in a Giant Wheel and after 2 rounds got so scared that I started screaming. They had to stop the Giant Wheel. Since then I had never dared to step into another such ride. But this time I really wanted to feel the thrill. The first ride was vertical Giant Wheel (like the one shown in the image). There were 10 of us in the same round with Vinayaka and I in the same car. Well, was I scared? Of course, I was!!! When you start falling… that feeling of “free falling” is hard to describe.. Then went another ride which was slanted. This was not as scary as previous one though Shruti with whom I had gone there, tried her best to scare me. After that ...

Naruto Quote

" People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts ... their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs? " - Itachi Uchiha in Naruto Shippuuden

Naruto Quote

A quote from latest Manga where one of the antagonist Danzuo dies. You are the tree's leaves that are bathed in sunlight while I am the root hidden in the darkness.   Danzuo says this addressing Hiruzen Sarutobi. Danzuo was the head of an organization Root (a part of AMBU squad) whereas his all time nemesis Sarutobi was the Third Hokage of village hidden in the leaves. Interesting end to his story as he is a dark character but doing everything for the sake of his village. P. S.- You know what, this end looked similar to “Vegeta’s Respect” in DragonBallz.

Seven Things People Dont Know About Me

Since I have been tagged by my dear old friend Sankalp I need to write 7 things which people don’t know about me. Let see, what’s the first thing. Hmmm… Since childhood I have the habit of copying International Cricketers batting style. I used to practice in front the mirror everyday, even during my engineering!! I still don’t have my own style of batting. I usually get into the same mode of thinking as the batsman I am mimicking. My favorite one was Damien Martin’s stance followed by Dravid and Laxman (I like those wristy shots) One day during my final year in VJTI, I had created an email account similar to our Profs, and sent a mail to our CR, asking everyone to be present for assignment submission. Next day, whole class was present. I had written the spelling of Physics as “Physices” on my 11th notebook. It was only when one guy from my class laughed at my mistake did I came to know the actual spelling. Like Sankalp, I am really good at Antakshari. That was one thi...

Article

I was just reading an article by MK Venu in Financial Express where I came across an interesting comparison of Central Bank governors and Abhimanyu by the Author- “I had asked the RBI governor whether US Fed chief Ben Bernanke increasingly looked like Abhimanyu, the tragic character in Mahabharata who had entered the Chakravyuha but lacked the knowledge of how to get out of it“ To which RBI governor replied - “We are all Abhimanyus in our own ways”

Bommarillu

I just saw the Telugu movie “ Bommarillu ”. Ever since, Divin, Piu and Manoj posted on vjcomps group that  it is really good movie (that was long time ago). I must say, one of the best movies I have seen. Great performances by Siddharth and Genelia while portraying Siddhu and Hasini . Especially Genelia looks really cute. Do watch the movie if you can :)   One sad thing though is that the remake in Hindi will have Harman Baweja for Siddhu’s role. I thought it would have been great had Siddharth Narayan would have given the chance again. Lets hope that Harman makes the best of this chance!!!   Image Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bommarilluposter.jpg
