NITIE First Class

I am in the section C of IM-16 batch and we have only two lectuers on first three days of the week. This is compensated with 2 lectures on Saturday afternoon :). Our lectures start at 9.30 in the morning. I got up at around 8.40, quickly got ready by 9, went to the mess for break fast, came back to room at 9.15 and then to the classroom.

The first lecture was that of Operations and Management by Rehaman sir. He interacted with the students well, gave us a brief idea of what Operations Management is. Looking forward to his lecture tomorrow.

Next was Velikutty sir’s Business Statistics. Again a good lecture, he gave us some real life example where stats can make or break a company. Where to use mean, where to us median, when to use deviation and when not to use it. I liked the example where a Civil enginner wanted to cross a canal and asked his junior for the depth of the canal. The junior took the measurement and told him the average depth 4.5 feet. Since the Civil guy was 6 feet tall, he decided that he can directly cross the canal by walking. He never returned from the canal. Well, the max depth of the canal was more than 6 feet!!!!

During lectures, I was desparately trying not to sleep. This was not because lectures were soporiphic, it was because of the inadeqeuate sleep I had in last few days. Hopefully, I will do better tomorrow. Since, the wifi internet is not active during college hours, I will have to find some new way pass my time on Monday to Wednesday. Obviously study is one of the ways, but I would like to read more books this time around and get more and more knowledge on variety of fields.

actually this was the effect of our grueling sessions with seniors which really helped us to know each other better.
And for the sleepless nights, it is just the first module which is tough, for the rest u get used to it ;)

Marathi Manoos

I read the following article in Mint yesterday. http://www.livemint.com/Articles/2010/02/19213129/The-Thackerays8217-primitiv.html I was shocked by the bias shown by the author against the Marathis. I completely agreed with him when he talks about Sena. Both Shivsena and MNS have done more damage to Marathis than they have helped. Their methods have been of violence and oppression. May it be Shiv Sena’s reaction to racists attacks in Australia or the MNIK controversy, common man is the one who usually suffers. But the author then checks the list of 30 companies in BSE and 50 in NSE, to prove that there are no Marathi person “owning” a company and goes on to say - “ The Mumbai Marathi, better at renaming things than building something himself”. Then he says - If we observe Marathi society we notice the total absence of mercantile castes. Into this space the British imported the multi-religious trading community of Surat—Vohra, Khoja, Luhana, Memon, Jain, Parsi and Vaniya. The...
