Life @ NITIE: Day 9

Yesterday evening the TOPA group of NITIE (Theater of Performing Arts) put up a list of groups. Each was given a topic on which they had to perform a skit. Mine was the first group on the first day (as I told my friends, “do come for the first day, first show”). Our topic was “Apka Rakho Aage”. In fact, all the topics were spicy. Here is the list:
  • Andheri Raat mein, Diya tere Hath Mein
  • Hath Hata Waha Se
  • Do Boond Zindagi ki
  • Ek Rupye Mein do Ki Lo
  • Phati Chhatri Hua Dhamaka
  • Dheeru Bhai Ka sapana, Sab ke Hath Mein Apana
  • Karo Lekin Dhyan Se
  • Doodh Piyo Mast Jiyo
  • Karo Jyada Ka irada
  • Jahan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai, Waha sab ki Nazar hai
  • Maal Asli Hai
  • Ek Tupakati Bund aapki zindagi badal sakti hai
  • Aadmi Hun Admi Se Pyar Karata Hoon
  • Paro…. Main aa Raha Hoon
  • Tu hut, Main Lagoon
  • Ganda hai par dhanda hai yeh
  • Din Mein Dangal, Raat Mein Mangal
  • Ek ke Sath do do, ek hame bhi de do
So when I saw the topics, I knew it was going to be an interesting display creativity from NTIEans, especially from the groups which also had girls in the group. My group had one girl, but she didn’t come for the discussion so our path became much simpler. I would not like to divulge the details about our discussions and skit. I will give you the basic idea which we used. Star News has its tag line, “Aapko Rakhe Aage”, Aditya who was in my group suggested that we would do replica of Star news – Bar News(None of the performances had any content related to Bar) which will have the tag line “Aap Ka Rakhe Aage……… Knowledge”. Almost every dialogue had double meaning but if you would find nothing wrong with dialogues if you didn’t know the second meaning (or the first meaning for some people). When we did perform we got great response from our seniors, everyone liked it, even though we crossed the given deadline of 8 minutes, they allowed us to continue further. My performance was honestly the worst in my group, but then when you are in a group, individual performances don’t matter much. It’s the group effort that matters. We kind of set the benchmark for the competition. None of the remaining 12 groups which performed tonight could complete the skit as they were asked to pack up before the official deadline of 8 mintues (“1-2-3-4 band karo yeh atyachar”). Some groups started well, but all of them had sexually explicit dialogues which was not allowed. It seems if there no other special performance, we could be the surprise winners :).

Sawai Ekankika’ 2013

So this year I completed a hat trick of watching the finals of Sawai . Like the previous 2 occasions, this too was a great experience. Most of the plays were good and the overall performance level was better than that of the 2012 finals. Most of the plays were based social issues like parenting, cynicism among the middle class, etc. Unlike the previous finals, not a single one was of romantic/love genre. Here is the list of finalists- Nat S. M. R. T. We missed this one as we were late. But Viraj's father told us, this was similar to the play " Natasamrat " but a modern version. Emotional Atyachar This was a story of an employee in an e-CRM firm which is hired by clients so that someone can communicate with their family. These clients are too "busy" with their work that they don't have time to speak with their wife/kids/parents. The agent/employee E26 slowly starts getting emotionally attached with his clients' families. Finally, when he is about t...
